Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 10, 2026

URL to PDF does not collect your data. There are no servers, no accounts, and no analytics. Every page you convert is processed on your own computer, and the resulting PDF is saved directly to your downloads folder.

This policy explains that in full, including exactly what each browser permission is used for.

Who this policy covers

This policy applies to the URL to PDF browser extension ("the extension") and to this website. Throughout this document, "we" and "our" refer to the developer of URL to PDF.

By installing the extension you agree to this policy. If you disagree with it, please do not install the extension.

Information we collect

We collect no information of any kind. Specifically, the extension does not collect, transmit, sell, or share:

The extension does not use cookies, tracking pixels, advertising identifiers, or any similar tracking technology. It does not create an account for you, and it does not require you to provide any information in order to work.

How the extension works

When you convert a page, the extension attaches to the current tab through the browser's own printing engine, renders the page, and produces a PDF file. All of this happens locally, inside your browser, on your device.

The finished PDF is written to the download location configured in your browser. It is never uploaded anywhere. The extension makes no network requests to any server operated by us, because no such server exists.

Because the conversion runs entirely on your machine, pages that require a login work normally, and their contents never leave your computer.

Permissions and why they are needed

Chrome requires the extension to declare the capabilities it uses. Each permission below is requested because a specific feature cannot work without it, and for no other reason.

debugger

Provides access to the browser's built-in page-rendering and printing engine, which is what produces a real PDF with selectable text instead of a screenshot. This permission is used only to render the page you chose to convert, at the moment you click the button. It is not used to inspect your browsing, read other tabs, or monitor network traffic.

activeTab

Grants temporary access to the tab you are currently viewing, and only after you click the extension. It does not grant access to your other tabs, and the access ends when you navigate away.

scripting

Allows the extension to run the code that measures the page, applies your chosen mode, and highlights elements you select or remove. This code runs only on the page you are converting.

downloads

Saves the finished PDF file to your computer. Used only to write the file you asked for.

storage

Stores your preferences, such as the last conversion mode you used. This data stays on your device in the browser's local extension storage. It contains no personal information and is never transmitted to us or anyone else. Removing the extension deletes it.

Host access

The extension does not request broad access to all websites. It works on the page in front of you, when you ask it to.

Limited Use disclosure

Our use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Because the extension does not collect user data, there is no data to use, transfer, or sell. We do not transfer data to third parties, we do not use data for personalized advertising or creditworthiness assessment, and no human reads your data, because we never receive it.

Data sharing and disclosure

We do not share, sell, rent, or disclose user data to anyone, including advertisers, data brokers, analytics providers, and affiliated companies. We hold no user data that could be disclosed, whether voluntarily or in response to a legal request.

Your privacy rights

Privacy laws such as the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CCPA/CPRA), and comparable state laws in the United States give you rights over personal information a company holds about you. These typically include the right to access, correct, delete, or port your information, and the right to opt out of its sale or sharing.

We hold no personal information about you, so there is nothing for us to disclose, correct, delete, or transfer, and nothing that could be sold or shared. We do not sell or share personal information, and we have not done so in the preceding twelve months.

You may still contact us with any privacy question, and we will respond. If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

Children

The extension is a general-purpose utility and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children, and in fact collect none from any user, regardless of age.

Data retention and security

We retain no user data, so there is nothing to retain, back up, or breach. Your preferences and your PDF files are stored on your own device and are governed by your own device and browser security settings.

This website

This page is a static website. It sets no cookies, runs no analytics, and collects no information about visitors. Standard server logs may be kept by our hosting provider for security and reliability purposes; we do not use them to identify or track individuals.

Third-party pages

The extension converts pages published by others. Those pages are governed by their own privacy policies, not this one. The extension does not alter how those websites handle your information.

Changes to this policy

If we change how the extension handles information, we will update this page, revise the date at the top, and notify users before the change takes effect. We will not begin any new collection or use of data without disclosing it first and obtaining consent where required.
